Early life[]
Carlo de' Medici was born as an illegitimate son of Cosimo de' Medici and his Venetian slave mistress Maddalena, after which he was officially adopted by Cosimo's wife Contessina de' Bardi and was raised in the Medici household alongside his half-nephews Lorenzo and Giuliano. Later he was sent to the Curia in Rome to obtain a religious education and become a priest. He also used used his influence to overlook Medici bank affairs.
Season 2[]
Standing alone[]
When Lorenzo and his mother Lucrezia intend to visit Rome in order to seek an extension from the Pope, Carlo welcomes them and also arranges for a meeting with Pope. After an unsuccessful attempt to persuade the papacy, Lucrezia decides to arrange a marriage union for her son and the daughter of an elite Roman family of Orsini branch, Clarice Orsini, who also happened to be the niece of Cardinal who had great influence to the papal decisions. Carlo, being a close friend of hers, persuades Clarice to marry Lorenzo rather than taking her holy vows to join clergy. He tells her being a wife and mother of a great man can also be a way to serve the Lord Clarice agrees to marry Lorenzo.
Betrayal[]
After Lorenzo's alliance with Milan and Venice over trade became successful, the Pazzi and other rivals of the Medici decide to murder the Medici brothers in order to prevent them being rulers of Florence eventually. While Francesco de' Pazzi and Francesco Salviati were planning for the assassination, a spy intimidates Carlo and Carlo was taken into captivity by the conspirators to seal the truth from being spread.
Clarice arrives in Rome to learn of the political conditions on her husband's behalf and seeks to meet Carlo. She demands to see Carlo and says she won't leave until she has spoken with him. She was concerned he was dead. He was brought out and blackmailed by his captives to stay silent or else they would have to abuse Clarice, resulting in him concealing the truth while meeting his friend Clarice. The spy sat near them while they spoke to make sure he didn't share the information
Mass[]
The planned assassination happened during Easter mass against the Medici family, leaving Giuliano de' Medici dead and Lorenzo wounded. Clarice, Lorenzo, and his mother hide in the sacristy. The assassins try to break down the door to finish off Lorenzo but can't get through the doors. They listen in and mistake the women's grief over Giuliano for Lorenzo. They leave him for dead and go to secure the city for themselves. A choir boy tells them it's ok to come out of the room. The family rushes over and hold Giuliano during his last breaths. Lorenzo apologizes for not listening to him when he said they needed to fight more against the Pazzi. Lorenzo confronts then in the city streets while they're trying to take the city. The people side with The Medici. The people start to throw rocks and chase the conspirators. Lorenzo orders the Pazzi and other conspirators to be hanged And the Pazzi name wiped away from the city. The conspirators in Rome hold Carlo as their hostage to blackmail Lorenzo in Florence, who now wishes to avenge his dear brother's brutal demise. Lorenzo holds the Pope's nephew as hostage.
Season 3[]
Now a captive of his family's enemies Carlo wishes to be of great help to his nephew Lorenzo in Florence.
